Snaefellsnes Snowshoeing

Starting from: Snæfellsjökull base (intersection of Road 574 and 575)
Season: 15th Sep - 15th Jun
Duration: 3 hours (of which 1-2 hours snow shoeing)
Difficulty: 2/5 (easy, but good fitness and mobility is necessary)

On this tour, you go snowshoeing on Snæfellsjökull volcano/glacier and enjoy great views of the area from a height of 400-600 meters.

From the meeting point, we go with a snowcat or truck up to Eysteinsdalur, where we put on snowshoes and hike (~1km and 100 meters elevation gain) between beautiful lava formations sticking out of the ground all the way to a hidden dome tent in the wilderness.

There, we stop for a while to taste few traditional Icelandic wilderness snacks and beverages. From this elevation of about 400 meters you can enjoy a great scenery of both the glacier and over the beautiful coastline below.

We then return to base.

This tour is a fun and easy snowshoe walk for anyone who’s reasonably fit to walk for 1-2 hours.
